Can unoriginal plots work in novels today?
Q. I'm writing a novel and I feel that the premise of it has been used a 1000+ but I also think that the context in my story is original and differs compared to the other novels, such as where it ends up and the overall tone of the book. So I want to get people's opinion on whether or not they think it'll work. Thanks.

A. Yes, it can work. It's all about how you tell the story, your voice. People are able to put new spins on old story lines all the time. An example from film is Juno. Diablo Cody took a subject that's been done to death, teen pregnancy, and put a fresh new spin on it. Just approach it from a different perspective and you can make something that seems unoriginal, brand new. Good luck :)
