Learning is acquiring new knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, preferences or understanding, and may involve synthesizing different types of information. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals and some machines. Progress over time tends to follow learning curves.

Human learning may occur as part of education, personal development, or training. It may be goal-oriented and may be aided by motivation. The study of how learning occurs is part of neuropsychology, educational psychology, learning theory, and pedagogy.

Learning may occur as a result of habituation or classical conditioning, seen in many animal species, or as a result of more complex activities such as play, seen only in relatively intelligent animals. Learning may occur consciously or without conscious awareness. There is evidence for human behavioral learning prenatally, in which habituation has been observed as early as 32 weeks into gestation, indicating that the central nervous system is sufficiently developed and primed for learning and memory to occur very early on in development.

Play has been approached by several theorists as the first form of learning. Children play, experiment with the world, learn the rules, and learn to interact. Vygotsky agrees that play is pivotal for children's development, since they make meaning of their environment through play.

Learning is the acquisition and development of memories and behaviors, including skills, knowledge, understanding, values, and wisdom. It is the goal of education, and the product of experience.

learning?!?
Q. is there another way of learning but also having fun at the same time ?
Asked by DizzymamaG - Sat Mar 8 08:29:03 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Absolutely! Actually there is lots of research to support that children learn more through play. The Early Learning Goals (Foundation Stage curriculum) is based very much on learning through play and exploration. The idea is that if you provide a stimulating environment the children will learn at their own pace. Bombarding children with lots of information doesn't mean they will take any in. It's good to intervene whilst their playing and ask them questions which encourage them to think, but it's clear that very young children don't learn as much when they are sat down being 'taught'. Even older children are more likely to remember things if they had fun doin it, or if they had a practical lesson say outdoors than copying work from a… [cont.]

What's the best way to continue learning a language without classes?
Q. I've finished school and it won't be till a few months later that I continue learning Spanish at university. I really want to keep learning while I'm at home but its hard to find the motivation to start. I also want to keep learning Portuguese which I've been learning at home alongside Spanish, but that too I feel lazy to do. What are some good methods to learn at home using internet resources and online friends who are native speakers?

How do I start learning about programming?
Q. I applied for this program, called Excel Tecc, it is a programming class, and during the interviews, I talked with many other students who seemed to have much more knowledge about the topic than me, and before the class starts I want to learn more about the topic because I want to be caught up. What are ways that I can start learning about programming, books are preferred, but websites are fine too.

A. You can start here. I'd recommend the HTML classes first. It's a simple way to learn something, and you don't need anything but a simple text editor and a browser. Any computer will have those pre-loaded these days. Try using notepad on a windoze computer. I don't know what you'd use on a mac, though.
