Where can i find cliffnotes/sparknotes for the lords of discipline by pat conroy?
Q. i need spark notes or cliff notes of some kind for the lords of discipline by pat conroy. a website that offers them would be nice or if someone has a really detailed description of what happens in the book that would work too. Please help soon!

A. I know this may sound like I'm lecturing you but...read the book. Pat Conroy is a master and deserves to be read word for word. It's not a long book and if you put your mind to it you could have it read in a day or two. Don't do the spark notes thing...you may learn something.

Does anyone have a passage from Conroy's Prince of Tides that illustrates Conroy's style?
Q. Ive read the book for school and i dont know what Conroy's style really is? Anyone have ideas about it?
Asked by John - Tue Sep 4 20:08:50 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Conroy's style is a very highbrow, almost pretentious style of English which he uses to demonstrate the depth of his characters -- typically, that depth is surprising since the characters come from an impoverished or working class background. (Particularly in The Prince of Tides.) Consider the very first paragraph: "My wound is geography. It is also my anchorage, my port of call." Right away, he establishes a lofty, poetic style. He also does an amazing job of balancing abstraction and concreteness -- this opening paragraph is certainly abstract poetry, yet the entire book centers on the Wingo's coastal origins and southern background, which makes the first paragraph very concrete.

It must have been a difficult decision for Mr Conroy?
Q. " OK, the bears are up 1-0 but Hibs still look like they could score. Sure I could come up with a reason to chop it off but the brother used that last week. No, i will tell kenny to drop next time he is in the box that will put the lads 2 up and give them a cushion. " Its as its always been with these cheatin refs and linesmen. Conroy for Lundmark: did the Flames win that trade?
Q. I say hell yeah they did. Conroy had his best seasons in Calgary, and most importantly, he's happy to be back. Lundmark was a terrible underachiever. What do you think?
Asked by Mr. Lahey - Tue Jan 30 12:09:29 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Keep in mind two things: Conroy has great chemistry with Jarome Iginla. He was Iginla's center when #12 was a Hart trophy finalist in 2002. Lundmark is from a long line of New York Rangers busts that have yet to accomplish anything significant in the NHL, other than being cheap salary cap fodder. So yes, the Flames win out, regardless on how Conroy does!

Aussies. What are your thoughts on the Internet Censorship policy proposed by Senator Conroy?

A. I am sure that you can tell a lot by how a man views death. All you probably know about Ben Franklin would be given a different light if you read the epitaph he penned as a young man. He felt that his body, like a book with its contents were torn out was food for worms, but the content would be revised and corrected by the author. Reincarnation was not a popular idea then.

A. ya they are not related but did u catch the part where Jackie said she got a divorce??? I was so bummed I hate when they do that...cutting edge 2 was great you wanted them to live happily ever after. I loved that in cutting2 they showed the dorsey's from cutting1 still together(even if it was different people) but why couldn't they show Jackie still married(even if it was to a different actor?) and maybe have a family...sorry I get so caught up...LOL Have a great day.

Why isn't Pat Conroy taught in high schools?
Q. He's an American author, a great storyteller, and most of his books don't contain vulgarity. Also, his books would make great essay topics.

A. I enjoy Pat Conroy's work, however, he indeed is a bestselling author of novels and memoirs and in this day and age would not qualify as "classic" works nor highly educational to meet state, district, and local standards. I appreciate you asking this question.

Gabriel Conroy and Michael Furey in "The Dead"?
Q. I'm a homeschooled student in a correspondence school and I'm having troubles with a question. If anyone could help me that'd be great. I've read the story several times. Question: Compare and contrast the characters of Gabriel Conroy and Michael Furey in "The Dead." (hint: think about their attitudes toward bad weather and who wears or doesn't wear galoshes."
Asked by CuddleBear - Wed Sep 23 11:46:32 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When you are reading that portion of the book describing how each one handles bad weather, look for what they say and what their attitude towards it is, as well as their personality.

A. As an Irish-American Roman Catholic from Savannah, Georgia, Will is an outsider and finds life as a "knob" or "plebe" (a first-year cadet in training) at the Institute to be physically and emotionally brutal. But he finds solace in three boys who become his great friends: Tradd St. Croix, an "old Charlestonian" (from a very rich and respected family); Dante "Pig" Pignetti; and Mark Santoro, two brawny, Northern boys of Italian descent. He also respects the tough-talking, cigar-chomping Colonel "Bear" Berrineau (based on Thomas Nugent "The Boo" Courvoisie, a former Commandant at The Citadel) who asks the senior cadet McLean to look out for the Institute's first black cadet, Tom Pearce. But McLean's journey to manhood is full of twists and… [cont.]

Do you love and admire Pat Conroy?
Q. Wanted to point you readers in the direction of my favorite author and American treasure, Pat Conroy. You may recognize him as author of the popular Beach Music, but I'd like to remind you of some other great titles like The Lords of Discipline, The Great Santini, The Water Is Wide, The Prince of Tides, and My Losing Season. His roots run deeply into the SC Low Country and the days of his young life at the Citadel in Charleston. Do you know him already? Care to discuss your favorite?
Asked by Serendipity - Thu Feb 15 07:46:39 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've read all of his books. I read the Lords of Discipline when I was accepted at the citadel. My family is from Charleston and I know that The Lords of Discipline was a hot topic for a while when it first came out. My family has been in Charleston for over three hundred years, so some of my relatives fit into the stereotypical south of broad group. Most old families in Charleston weren't too happy with their portrayal in the book. All in all, Conroy is an amazing author, although I wouldn't be so sure about his roots running too deep in the low country, after all his father was a yankee.

A. During the five-season run she won both Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards and was nominated four times for an Emmy. Frances Conroy played Ruth Fisher in the 2001-05 HBO TV series Six Feet Under. She won a Golden Globe in 2004 as Best Actress in a Drama, followed by a Screen Actors Guild Award in the same category later that year. She received an Emmy nomination for the role in 2006, the show's final season.
