- Composition (logical fallacy) A fallacy of composition arises when one infers that something is true of the whole from the fact that it is true of some part of the whole . For example: "This fragment of metal cannot be broken with a hammer, therefore the machine of which it is a part cannot be broken with a hammer." This is clearly fallacious, because many machines, in which one assumes that a whole has a property solely because its various parts have that property

- in computer science
- Object composition In computer science, object composition is a way to combine simple objects or data types into more complex ones. Compositions are a critical building block of many basic data structures, including the tagged union, the linked list, and the binary tree, as well as the object used in object-oriented programming, combining simpler data types into more complex data types, or function calls into calling functions
- Function composition (computer science) In computer science, function composition is an act or mechanism to combine simple functions to build more complicated ones. Like the usual composition of functions in mathematics, the result of each function is passed as the argument of the next, and the result of the last one is the result of the whole, an act or mechanism to combine simple functions to build more complicated ones
- Compositing window manager A compositing window manager is a component of a computer's graphical user interface that draws windows and/or their borders. It also controls how they are displayed and interact with each other, and the rest of the desktop environment. The main difference between a compositing window manager and other window managers is that instead of outputting a component of a computer's graphical user interface that draws windows and/or their borders.
- in mathematics
- Composition (number theory) In mathematics, a composition of a positive integer n is a way of writing n as a sum of strictly positive integers. Two sums which differ in the order of their summands are deemed to be different compositions, while they would be considered to be the same partition, a way of writing a positive integer as a sum of positive integers
- Function composition In mathematics, function composition is the application of one function to the results of another. For instance, the functions f: X → Y and g: Y → Z can be composed by computing the output of g when it has an argument of f instead of x. Intuitively, if z is a function g of y and y is a function f of x, then z is a function of x, an operation that takes functions and gives a single function as the result
- Relation composition In mathematics, the composition of binary relations is a concept of forming a new relation S o R from two given relations R and S, having as its most well-known special case the composition of functions, an operation that takes relations and gives a single relation as the result
- A law of composition, usually called a binary function In mathematics, a binary function, or function of two variables, is a function which takes two inputs
- in the arts
